How to give agency access to Google

Last updated · every role links to a page checked against official help

The short answer

Ask for the smallest role per product: Read-only in Google Ads to view reports; Standard in Google Ads to manage campaigns; Manager account link (accepted by a client Admin) in Google Ads manager account (MCC) link to manager account; Marketer in Google Analytics 4 to set up key events and audiences; Viewer in Google Analytics 4 to view reports; Publish (container permission) in Google Tag Manager to publish container changes; Edit (container permission) in Google Tag Manager to install tracking tags; Standard in Google Merchant Center to manage the product feed; Admin (Merchant Center) — or have the client do the link in Google Merchant Center to link Merchant Center to Google Ads; Full user in Google Search Console to submit sitemaps and request indexing (full SEO work); Restricted user in Google Search Console to view performance reports; Manager in Google Business Profile to manage the listing, posts and reviews.

Which role to ask for, by task

One row per job. Ask for the role in the second column and nothing broader: the smallest role that does the job is easier for the client to approve, easier to audit, and simpler to remove when the work ends.
